About WiseIP

A professional community dedicated to advancing Infection Prevention through knowledge, mentorship, and leadership.

Meet Dr. Shaunté Walton

Shaunté Walton, MS, CIC, FAPIC, is the System Director of Clinical Epidemiology & Infection Prevention at UCLA Health — the first Black woman to hold the role in the health system's history.

With a career spanning frontline infection prevention, outbreak response, and executive healthcare leadership, Dr. Walton has dedicated her work to one mission: building the next generation of Infection Prevention leaders. She teaches at UCLA Extension, where she co-designed an infection prevention curriculum with the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, and speaks nationally on infection prevention practice, leadership, and workforce development.

WiseIP was born from a simple observation: new Infection Preventionists are hired into complex, high-stakes roles with minimal structured support — expected to perform quickly, given basic onboarding, and left to figure the rest out alone. WiseIP is the resource hub, training system, and mentorship community she wishes she had when she started.
